2018 Thunder/Hurricane Try-out Registration

Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to the 2018 Thunder/Hurricanes Tryout Registration with Lake In The Hills Youth Athletic Association!

We appreciate your interest in trying out for our Thunder baseball or Hurricanes softball travel teams.  We are excited to move forward to 2018 after a very competitive 2017 season.

Below are some answers to frequently asked questions and some information on our plans and requirements for next season.  Please feel free to ask any/all questions so that you have a full understanding of our organizational and team requirements.

  • Players are expected to commit to the team and to attend all practices and games during the season (with the exception of illnesses, school commitments, family emergencies, etc.).   We prefer that players not participate in other travel sports during the baseball and softball seasons.  When making a commitment to play, you are committing to your teammates, coaches and other families on the team.  Thunder Baseball and Hurricanes Softball are offered as an extension of our very successful in-house program, LITHYAA.  The commitment that each player will receive from our coaches is extremely high.  We expect that your player and family are equally committed should you be asked to play the 2018 season with us.
  • Our philosophy is to help our players improve and to have fun, while playing high-quality competitive travel baseball or softball.  All players will be treated with respect and encouraged on and off the field.  We would expect all players and parents to act responsibly and to abide by basic rules of conduct for youth sports.
  • Our tryout process is designed to be a multiple day tryout.  On the first day, we will look at skill sets taking an extensive amount of ground balls and fly balls before looking at everyone’s swing and pitching mechanics/abilities.  On the second day, we will take a quick infield after warming up and then ideally play a scrimmage game for approximately 2 hours to observe the players at game speed (including evaluating live pitching and hitting, game instinct, etc). While attendance at both sessions is not mandatory, it is in the player's best interest to attend both days.
  • All travel may be required to participate in the LITHYAA's annual Pick 4 lottery to raise funds for field improvements.
  • Thunder Baseball: Once again, we will be offering two (2) teams at 10U-14U and one team at 9U and 15U-17U. Our intention is that each team plays 55-60 games in 2018 from mid-April through the end of July though ultimately each team establishes their own schedule.  In order to prepare for this number of games, we will begin working out indoors in Dec/Jan at the Dugout, our indoor facility.  We traditionally practice twice per week from January – March but may elect to add a 3rd practice to focus on specific areas like a catcher's skill camp.  While we understand that some players may have an interest in other sports/activities, we ask that your commitment level to our workouts be at least 75% of the time.  Most teams will be playing in the McHenry County Baseball League or Mid-Suburban Baseball League; this will be determined by each individual coach. Additionally, teams will  compete in 5 to 6 tournaments; again to be determined by each individual coach with at least of them being out of town.  Each team in self funded. Normally, $300.00 is the required player fee but teams may vote to increase that number in order to not have to fundraise as much.
  • Hurricanes Softball:  Our intentions are to play 50-60 games in the 2017/2018 season that will begin in September 2017 continuing through the end of July 2018.  The majority of games will be tournament play as we will participate in 2-3 tournament in the Fall of 2017, and 7-10 tournaments in 2018.  Teams may play additional games through scrimmage-based league play, with league determined by each individual coach.  We will practice 2-3 times per week in the fall until the weather prohibits outdoor activity, at which time we will move to our indoor facility in Algonquin.  While we understand that some players may have interest in other sports/activities, we ask that your commitment level to our workouts be at least 75% of the time.  (NOTE:Due to IHSA rules and regulations, there will be no travel activity, games or practices, for those participating in high school softball during their season).
We hope to see you at our 2018 tryouts in late July and early August.  If you have any questions, please contact our Travel Director, Mark Lonigro at mtm_mark@msn.com, or your age specific coach. Coaches are listed on the tryout tab on the left of our home page.
